Our Cover

Our cover was designed by Patrick Daugherty, the Pennsylvania State University. The artwork is a detail from the watercolor, ink on paper painting titled “La semilla” [“The Seed”], 70 x 50 cm, 1987, by artist Raúl Hernández Valdés. The painting is one of many artworks by Raúl Hernández Valdés featured in in this issue’s article, “Razón y
sensibilidad: alrededor del sacrificio” [“Reason and Sensibility: On Sacrifice”].

Preface

As always, this issue is the fruit of the labor of many people: the authors of the various articles, James Anderson, Kevin Larsen, and Patrick Daugherty, to name but a few.  I have tried to put their efforts together in this issue as best I can.  The mistakes are mine, and the good ideas, and good will, in this volume are theirs.  Thank you all.

First of all, we wish to thank Joe Vogel and Camilo Gomides for the wonderful job they did in organizing Ometeca’s IX Conference at the University of Puerto Rico in San Juan, Puerto Rico.  It was a tremendous success, with many excellent papers, some of which will appear in volume 12 of Ometeca.  One paper from the San Juan conference does appear in the current volume, that of our keynote speaker David Barrash.

We also need mention Ometeca’s upcoming Working Conference X organized by Rafael Català and Lloyd Haver, to be held in Saint Petersburg, Florida in 2008.  The details will be posted on the Ometeca web site (www.ometeca.org) as soon as they are available.

Finally, I would like to remind everyone to please send any contributions, comments, suggestions, or advice regarding the journal to me at:

Prefacio
