As always, this issue is the fruit of the labor of many people: the authors of the various articles, James Anderson, Kevin Larsen, and Patrick Daugherty, to name but a few. I have tried to put their efforts together in this issue as best I can. The mistakes are mine, and the good ideas, and good will, in this volume are theirs. Thank you all.

University of South Florida-Campus de Saint Petersburg, Florida, EEUU, 9-14 Junio 2008, St. Petersburg, Florida, EEUU
acondicionado. El hospedaje en la residencia
universitaria cuesta US$250.00 por las cinco noches. Esta última suma
debe ser pagada antes

An Ecology for Preserving Our Planet: How Humanities and Sciences Can Work Productively Together in an Era of Crisis
A diverse Working Conference, so no one is restricted to the
ecology theme. A Working Conference
leads to a more effective dissemination and integration of knowledge since
everyone actively contributes to the creative process. The Working Conference

The most successful papers at Ometeca Working Conferences bring together aspects of the sciences and the humanities in such a way that they take us beyond particular insights gained in each discipline. Papers that juxtapose and show parallels between aspects of the sciences and the humanities should do so in order to illuminate larger theoretical questions or suggest theory that lead us toward a new praxis. Historical surveys are not useful for their own sake, but should have relevance to a particular argument or larger interdisciplinary interest. Authors are encouraged to take chances and to explore new possibilities without sacrificing the rigor and standards of their disciplines.
Papers may be in English, Portuguese or Spanish, and should be no longer than 17 pages, singled spaced, including bibliography. Only completed papers will be considered for inclusion in the Working Conference. Paper proposals will not be considered. Send three (3) copies of your paper, no later than 10 March 2008 to Dr. Rafael Català at the following address:
Ometeca Institute, P.O. Box 12109, St. Petersburg, Florida 33733-2109,
In order to participate in the Working Conference, you do not need to present a paper, but the number of participants will be limited because papers are not read before an audience. Instead, they are distributed to participants before the working conference so that they may be studied and, at the working Conference, they are discussed with the participants.

We are seeking contributors interested in scholarly discussions on all the relevant issues, characters, testimonies, ideas and events, that proceeded, were concomitant with, or resulted from what is now known as the Great Oceanic Navigations. Despite the immensity of this panorama, our intention is to convene a select number of authors to examine the far reaching consequences in all orders of human experience, that are yet to be deeply assessed, of that momentous age that undoubtedly opened the way to our own. In the spirit of the OMETECA Institute, contributions are sought from a variety of approaches, including literature, philosophy, history, the arts, anthropology, mathematics, the natural sciences, religion, warfare, the navigational arts, and technology in general. We also seek a diversity of cultural milieus, such as Spanish, Portuguese, Indo and Afro American, English, French, Dutch, Italian or any other.
